This was a busy week for us. We had a family wedding yesterday. Congrats to Kyle and Laura! Brian was a groomsmen in the wedding and Kori was a bridesmaid. Luckily for us the wedding was held only about an hour from home. It is always challenging to adjust our farm chores routine to make sure that we got everything taken care. Everything went smooth and the wedding was a lot of fun! We received the sweatshirts and cup that we ordered from our cafepress site. The women’s sweat shirts seem to run a little small so order up a size.
Rabbits:
We are ready to have some more bunnies! Roxanne is due next week. Rachel’s 6 kits are about 2 weeks old now. They are super chunky little things and should be coming out of the nesting box in the upcoming week. Piper’s 8 kits have moved into the grow out cage next to her. Since she no longer has any kits with her we bred her with Ralph (New Zealand/Flemish). We also bred Rose (Rex) with George (Rex). We are hoping to get some good meat with Piper and Ralph’s litter. Rose and George’s litter will be primarily for fur.
Chickens:
All areas of the chicken coop got a refresh on pine chips. We may have to refresh one more time before doing our fall clean out. Did the first candling of the incubator eggs.
Garden:
This week we harvested 13 cucumbers, 10 zucchini, 2 orange bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, 4 serrano peppers, 3 chili de arbol peppers, 1/2 lb of green beans, and some sunflowers. Decided that we wanted to do garlic again, we missed our chance this year because we did not order it in time to get it planted before winter. We ordered enough garlic for two full raised beds this fall. We are still freezing cherry tomatoes and we also shredded up some of the zucchini and froze that to use for zucchini bread this winter. Made refrigerator pickles with the cucumbers that we harvested. The recipe that we used gave us 3 quart size jars. It was a cloudy/rainy day yesterday for the wedding so we thought it would be nice to brighten up the bride with some fresh flowers from our garden.
