There are so many options for harnesses now that I find it a little overwhelming to shop for them. All claim to have great “no-pull” features so how do you choose the best harness for you and your dog? I have used a variety of harness styles and brands over the last 10 + years with different dogs and I have to say that this one has been my favorite so far. It has many great features and you can get customized name patches too!

I found this harness on Amazon- Purchase -Paw Five harness  and Name Patches

12 weeks old and 34 lbs

This harness comes in a variety of colors and sizes.  Knowing that St. Bernards grow at an alarming rate, I was hoping to get away with ordering only two sizes, and my plan is going to work!  I wanted Baby Walter to start wearing his harness as young as possible, to get him used to having it on. He was already 15 lbs at 7 weeks old so I decided to start him with the medium because he was going to outgrow the small too quickly. The medium did not fit him until he was 12 weeks old and weighed 34 lbs. The up side to that is that he is still wearing it at 33 weeks old and 111 lbs! Next week we should be able to switch him to the XL set at the smallest size.

He is wearing size medium in this photo and weighs 105 lbs

One of the nice features this harness has that my past ones did not have, is a built in doggy bag holder. I found this useful one day when Walter and I decided to take an impromptu walk down a nice path that we happened to be parked near. The bags are easy to get in and out of the holder and it comes with a full roll to get you started.

Another nice feature is that the name patches Velcro on and off so if you want to buy different ones for different things you can easily switch them out. I know some people like them that say “in training” or “do not pet” so those options are available as well. It is also very adjustable so that it will fit your dog properly. Both the chest and belly straps adjust for a perfect fit. The chest strap has a reflective strip across it for safety on any night time walks.

This harness also has a great handle on the back to keep the dog close to you if needed and an additional hook on the side for anything else you may need to have with you.

The last and possibly most important feature, is that Walter seems comfortable wearing it and it is easy to get on and off.
