Another week of expanding at the homestead. We purchased two more does for our rabbitry. One is currently pregnant and the other came with 7 three week old ktis. We also posted our first How-to video! This is very exciting for us, hopefully, there will be more coming soon.

Rabbits:

All nine of Piper’s kits came out of the nesting box this week and are roaming around in the cage with her. They are all doing well. Margie is one of our new does. She is a Californian that is currently pregnant. Michelle is the other new doe. She is a New Zealand/ Rex/ Lionhead. Margie, Michelle and her babies are all settling in nicely. We do not plan to purchase any more does going forward. The plan is to just grow out some of the ones that we get from the litters we have. We now have enough does to have a litter every other week.

Chickens:

This week we started collecting eggs for the incubator. We are trying to get one more round in this year before the cold weather hits. The chickens have been getting treats of fresh zucchini that we had extra in the garden, this is one of their favorite treats.

Garden:

Harvested 13 overgrown zucchini for the chickens and 9 more that we intend to sell. Harvested 2.5 lbs of green beans that we traded locally for some homemade syrup. Cucumbers are getting close to harvesting. The bell pepper plants that we started have tons of peppers on them but none have changed color yet.

Projects:

Made a larger nesting box for Gracie since she is too big to fit the other ones that we have. Finished and posted our first how-to video on making rabbit foot key-chains. Completed 14 rabbit foot key chains to sell. The furs we are tanning are one step closer to completion. This morning we fleshed 9 rabbit hides as part of that process.
